It’s been a very long time since I’ve posted…I’ve found it hard to make time for this very important form of expression. A friend of mine asked me to be a guest writer on a blog of theirs, and that was very fun but taxing. It’s hard to slip into someone’s persona, especially someone who is a long distance friend who I’ve never met in person. I’ve been asked to not disclose any further information until it’s posted. At that time, I’ll include a link to my guest-writing post.
Three days, and my sister arrives for her visit. You remember her from an earlier post in May, don’t you? She’s the one who wouldn’t let me walk with her to or from school yet always willing to look out for me and protect me.
It’s been about 5 years since she’s been out to California to see me, and has never been to the new apartment when I moved into Los Angeles. I’m excited beyond belief! Even the last time she came out, we didn’t get along that well. I was fighting maturity quite a bit. That’s a polite way to put it, anyway. I think we got into our first argument on the way back to my place from the airport. We had very little in common, and she was appalled by some poor financial decisions I had made recently. Not that I blame her…I was an idiot.
But these days, she and I have more in common. We’ve grown closer, even though we’re still thousands of miles away from each other. She’s still a jock and I’m still the sensitive artist, but we’ve come to a greater understanding (and appreciation) of each other in recent years. Plus we’ve both mellowed out a bit. It’s a great feeling when a sibling who you never had much in common with becomes a friend, an equal.
So, Sis, if by chance you’re reading this, I’m so excited about your visit. Recently it’s been a little difficult to get to sleep because I’m so excited! While I may never understand your need to ride 50 miles on your bicycle on a Saturday morning, and you may never understand my need to express myself through music, I’ll always love you as only a little brother can. And we’re going to have a blast during your visit!
Just don’t make me walk half a block behind you as we walk down Ventura Boulevard.

I remember your earlier post about your sister and I can't help but feel inspired. Maybe one day I can become closer with my brother, and be able to call him a friend, an equal.
I remember that post as well. I'm sure you'll have a great time catching up and reminiscing.
I very seriously love my siblings. There is no one else in the world like them and no relationship like theirs with me. (Not proper grammar. Get over it.) My parents had 4 kids. I could have many more siblings and be very happy. Seriously. Love them!
